Sound
I have been experimenting lately with the medium of sound. These recordings are intended to hear the sounds behind music. It includes unintended audible and inaudible sound from devices used to listen to music including traditional recorder players, tape decks and modern smartphones.
I made this yesterday, amongst other things, in what was an incredibly busy day. At short notice, I had three meetings and attended the launch Cork City's Arts Office strategic plan at Triskle Christchurch. If only I were as productive every day.
Teller's Tale
If you like storytelling have a look at the Teller's Tale by Westmeath artist Paul Timoney. It is a digital book illustrated and narrated by the author. Have a look at the trailer. I have always preferred storytelling to story reading. I find it so relaxing, it conjures up the excitment of Friday afternoons at school or the soothing feeling of being read to before bed.

META
META is the video piece that was screened as part of the Making Space Athlone event in May. It is part of a new series of work that looks at the relationship we have with ourselves and its manifestation on our relationship with the natural world. It evokes our desire to look towards the unknown with ambition to transcend beyond our everyday existence. It creates a sense of looking through a telescope where our view is obscured by our aspirations.
The audio is recorded from environmental electromagnetic fields. I have began to experiment with sound, there is an idea that white noise that untuned televisions and radios is electromagnetic noise left over from the creation of the universe.
My latest work is interested in how man looks out at the natural world as an attempt to understand ourselves and how our view is obscured by our perception. The boundaries of the universe are believed to be ever changing and I like the juxtaposition of these two ideas.

Monster Truck and the Power of Social Media
Monster Truck Fundit from Monster Truck Gallery on Vimeo.
Monster Truck are currently looking for funding for a back projection screen for their gallery in Temple Bar through online fundraiser Fund it, an Irish equivalent to Kickstarter. The screen will project media art, day and night, on a window in the busy tourist/night life area. This is a great idea, it is an effective way to increase art literacy by allowing contemporary art to reach a wider audience. It eliminates the boundaries of the gallery walls.
Something similar has been going on in Nenagh, Co. Tipperary for a few years. SWITCH is a video art exhibition in which shop fronts become cinema screens at night. I would love to see town centres, across the country revived in this way.
Monster Truck have also produced a viral video to promote the fundraiser, which again, is an excellent idea. That makes three great new media ideas, the screen, the viral and the Fund it campaign. Fund it is a website that allows users to post creative projects that they need funded and advertise it to their networks. Backers pledge money to the project and in return receive rewards. MART used a similar campaign recently for a US tour.
There are 28 days left to give. I plan to pledge when my moneys are a little more plentiful and when I have not just had an ebay spree.
